Here in Val Müstair people have always lived from the land, in perfect harmony with nature. The region is characterised by pristine wilderness and its inhabitants feel a deep connection to the environment. This love of the natural world is evident on every day of our holiday, as we meet local farmers and restaurateurs, and explore the spectacular landscape in and around the Swiss National Park. This sun-kissed valley in south-eastern Graubünden is well aware of its treasures. Yet despite this, or perhaps because of it, tourism in Val Müstair is discreet and unobtrusive. Maybe this understated approach is inspired by the calm and humility radiated by the region’s 1,200-year-old UNESCO World Heritage listed Convent of St. John? We aim to find out, so we leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life behind us and head for the hills.
